Upcoming Art Exhibit by Sculptor Matt Boonstra

The next exhibit coming to the Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries is a solo exhibit, Running to Conclusions, by sculptor Matt Boonstra. The exhibit will run 3/2/13  - 4/6/13.

Matt is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University.

Following this exhibit, the annual Senior Art and Design Exhibit will be held.

Rockwell Kent and Aleksander Rodchenko

 Rockwell Kent: Prints from the Ralf Nemec Collection, and  works by graphic artists celebrating the 120th anniversary of Aleksander Rodchenko’s birth — will be on display at Saint Mary’s University until February 27th.

Annual Group Undergraduate Exhibit and Mid-Year Senior Exhibit

The current exhibit in the Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries is Clarity, the All Campus Student Art Exhibition and the senior capstone exhibit for two seniors in Art and Design, Nikki Farmer and Marie Fidler.

Nikki Farmer's work consists of mixed media sculpture, while Marie Fidler, whose work will be featured in a future post, focuses on watercolor paintings.

The awards in the undergraduate exhibit are below. Also receiving an honorable mention was Tran Nguyen's Value Study in Charcoal, which will be featured in a future post. The exhibit runs through December 13th, 2012.

Faculty Biennial

In the spring semester of the 2011/2012 academic year, the Saint Mary's University faculty biennial was held in the Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries. The exhibit, titled Verisimilitude, featured work by six members of the Saint Mary's art and design faculty.

Saint Mary's Ceramics Students Participate in 'Empty Bowls for the Hungry'

In the spring semester of the 2011/2012 academic year, two Saint Mary's Students, Mary Karnick and Jim Tandberg, joined Assistant Professor Lisa Truax in working with Winona State ceramic students and faculty along with local artists in creating dozens of bowls for the annual WSU event "Empty Bowls for the Hungry". The event benefits the Winona Volunteer Services Food Shelf. The bowls were sold at a lunch time event, and will be held again in the spring of 2013.

Many bowls were created to be sold for charity by SMUMN and WSU students and faculty as well as local artists.

Demonstration of Japanese Style Printmaking

During the last exhibit at the Lillian Davis Hogan Gallery in the Toner Student Center at Saint Mary's University, Associate Professor of Art Preston Lawing demonstrated traditional Japanese printmaking techniques.


The exhibit featured prints by numerous artists including Lawing, and was in support of relief efforts after the earthquake and nuclear disaster in Japan.
